"The significant problems we face cannot be solved by
the same level of thinking that created them." - Albert
Einstein
Why live sustainably?
We
believe living sustainably feels good. As the saying
goes, "You reap what you sow." If you are living in
harmony with the earth, the earth will provide for you.
That's what we have found at Round Mountain. We only use
natural inputs on the farm such as homemade compost and
manure from our neighbor's cattle. With healthy soil,
nutritious plants grow strong and pests and disease do
not attack. With wholesome foods and satisfying labor
the farmers stay fit. It also feels good living in a
non-toxic home made of straw where the walls breathe
naturally. Living off-the-grid with solar and wind power
is not difficult and it is comforting knowing we are not
adding to the air pollution most electric plants
produce. For all these various reasons we say, why not
give sustainable living a try!

Even
adults are amazed by the simplicity of the solar cooker.
Seeds of change can start
at an early age. By exposing children to the options of
living more sustainably on the earth with ecological
gardening, renewable energy from solar and wind power
and structures made of non-toxic materials Round
Mountain Institute can make a positive impact. When
these children become adults and need to have the tools
to deal with the situations that are being created now,
Round Mountain Institute will have made a difference. By
supporting Round Mountain Institute you can help expand
the knowledge of how to live in harmony with the Earth.
Please spread the word and help make the Earth a better place
for all.

Tomato plants can grow 12
feet tall, really!

Sustainable construction is
alive and well!
When
eating a fruit, think of the person who planted the
tree. -Vietnamese

Global
warming is becoming painfully obvious. Last summer June was
hot like July and then it rained nearly every day for the next
two months. This spring is at least four weeks early. The
winds are especially strong and maybe we should just call it
“global weirding.”
No
matter what we call it we all know our consumption of fossil
fuels is accelerating it. That’s why it is more pertinent than
ever to support Round Mountain Institute in educating people
how to live lighter on the land while using appropriate
technology to maintain a high quality of life. It is not
difficult to grow your own food and have a smaller footprint
on the Earth. It is incredibly fulfilling.
Give
it a try and let me know how it feels for you. Happy
Summer! Nancy
